A riverfront hotel proposed in the unincorporated community of Hood is undergoing environmental review but aims to start construction in fall 2027, the developer said.
"With the complex riverfront entitlements, we are in the Environmental Impact Report process," said Bob Leach, president of West River Hotels. "Takes time, but the reports and meetings including state and federal agencies have been very positive."
Planned for 10724 State Highway 160 in Sacramento County, The River Hotel & Marina would have 64 suites, all with balconies and all facing the Sacramento River.
Leach said the hotel would be part of Preferred Hotels & Resorts, a chain of independent hotels. Hotel features will include a riverfront restaurant that would also provide room service, executive meeting space and a wellness facility offering mineral baths, red light therapy and saunas.
The development would also include a new catering kitchen for the neighboring Willow Ballroom & Events Center, a public parking garage and a new marina offering activities such as yacht wine tours, paddle boarding and kayaking, Leach said.
Leach said he's envisioning River Hotel & Marina as a four-star, luxury hotel. It would be the first four-star hotel in Sacramento County's Delta area, with the closest ones now in the city of Sacramento.
He said he'll also reach out to residents in Hood and nearby for jobs and hospitality training.
A report by Boutique Hotel Advisors commissioned by Leach estimated the hotel would earn annual revenue of $12.4 million, with annual net operating income of more than $3.2 million.
The report estimated the hotel's overall economic value at $33.7 million.
If built, River Hotel & Marina would be the first new hotel in the Delta in decades. Tourism advocacy groups such as Visit Sacramento have pushed for more hotel rooms in the region overall, both to accommodate visitors for large events like the Aftershock music festival earlier this month and for overall tourism growth.
