SIEMENS LIGHT RAIL CAR MANUFACTURING FACILITY
SACRAMENTO, ca

Built on a 20 acre site, this 123,000 square foot light rail manufacturing facility includes a 101,000 square foot assembly area along with 22,000 square feet of administrative offices and personnel support areas. Built around a pre-engineered metal frame, the building is clad with metal wall panels and a standing seam metal roof system with insulated fiberglass skylights. A concrete wainscot is provided at the building perimeter in the assembly area. The building is planned to accept expansion at a later date.

The building frame in the assembly area supports a 5 ton and 10 ton crane on each side of the center production aisle, running the full length of the structure. Also provided is a car transfer system, a steel structure to allow continuous access to the top of the cars and in-ground concrete assembly pits to allow easy access to the underside of cars during production.

Personnel support facilities include washrooms, toilets, lockers and changing areas for both sexes and a general lunch room. Site work included extensive grading and drainage, concrete building aprons for light rail car transfer from bay to bay, site parking, utilities, landscaping and a light rail car railway test track system.
