UC Berkeley campus,
hyatt centric proposal

The Project will consist of a full-service 241-room Hyatt Centric hotel. Each Hyatt Centric hotel offers stylish, boutique-style hotel rooms with touches of local artistry and other amenities including handcrafted food, cocktail kits, and free Wi-Fi.
The lobby and other common areas emphasize open-space collaboration and incorporate contemporary, modern and eclectic design elements. Specifically, lobby areas are programmed as residential style lounges with unique furnishings, finishes, and décor where hotel guests and patrons can socialize, work or relax and have access to the full-service lobby restaurant and bar.

Exterior elements include glass curtain wall along the ground floor at the corner of Oxford St. and University Ave., a fully enclosed glass exterior on the top two floors, offset exterior room windows, and a smooth yet textured exterior facade. Interior elements include textiles made of natural materials and dyes, organic finishes, textures patinaed with age, art that is process oriented versus figurative, and unique objects found locally or during travels. It is a goal of the Project for hotel guests and patrons to experience modern juxtaposed with history, tradition juxtaposed with technology, and light juxtaposed with shadow. The project is a collaboration with MAK studio, Berkeley.
