FLORIN COMMUNITY HISTORY CENTER
SACRAMENTO, ca

This project for the Southgate Park and Recreation District evolved from a metaphorical "barn in a field of grass", imparting the link to Florin's historic agricultural past. The Center's barn-like form is set back from the street and enveloped by the green landscape of Sunrise-Florin Park. A row of trees along the edge of the property recalls the iconic windbreak in keeping with the agrarian theme. The building is clad in utilitarian metal siding, and painted yellow to signify its importance as the center of both farm and community life. The 4,000 sf building encloses a single multi-purpose meeting hall for 125, restrooms and storage, and a small lobby for display of historic artifacts.
